The First Dance Workshop
Back in January I invited my couples who will be getting married in 2016 to a first dance workshop. I wanted to do something nice and a little bit different for the lovely people who have booked me to shoot their weddings, so I put together this informal dance lesson evening.
It is slightly difficult to get everyone together when some of my couples live quite far away. I was a little worried that not enough people could come but as it turned out the extra space in the hall came in quite handy, especially when I joined in with my husband. The more room the better really!
It ended up a lovely evening and I am very grateful to Steve from Dance Bespoke who did a fantastic job of teaching steps while keeping it fun and light hearted. We started with a basic four step routine. It seemed quite simple when we were practicing across the room from each other but a lot harder when we were with our partners. Once we had that down we worked on something a bit faster suitable for more upbeat music. Quite straightforward until we introduced turns. I have to say the turns were a lot easier when I danced with Steve than they were with my husband!
Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and I look forward to seeing them put into practice what they learned when it comes to their first dance on their wedding day. Talking to Matt afterwards he admitted that he had been pretty reluctant to come along but was really glad Sammi had talked him into it. Once he got into the dance steps he had actually quite enjoyed himself!
It was also just a great chance to catch up with everyone. Usually I meet couples before they book but sometimes we have only spoken over the phone or via Skype. In this case its really nice to see people face to face and get to know them a little before their wedding day.
All in all it was a great success and I hope to do something like it again in the future. Thanks also go to Ann at Cakes Individually Iced for her display and delicious samples and also Matt and Julie for expertly served canapes and champagne xx
